10 Tips for Job Seekers

My thanks to Robyn S. for permission to re-post her article

Finding a good job these days can be brutal, if not down-right frustrating. So when I came across a teacher in the Greater Chicago area, Robyn S, with a complied list of ten tips for job seekers, I was quick to read her suggestions. By way of background, Robyn says she has have been working in the education and career/advising field for over 6 years. Here are her suggestions:

1.  Stay Positive-Your mood matters, and it attaches to everything and everyone around you.  No matter how long you have been out of work, keep your spirits up and keep going.  Do not give up.

2.  Network, network, network…especially via Linked In.  If you are not on Linked In, you should set up an account as soon as possible.  Create the best profile you can, use strong words, put yourself in the best light (but don’t lie).  Start reaching out to those you know and build your network.  Search for people within your career field and/or interest and invite them to join your network.  You will be surprised at how many amazing people you can meet, and how many recruiters may find you.

The Citizens of Mississippi: Father Forgive Them

When voters in Mississippi voted down the human personhood amendment last week, they sent a clear and undeniable message — the pro-life movement is not as pro-life as it thinks. The truth is, even in what may be the most pro-life state in the union, the most basic moral logic of the pro-life movement is not fully embraced or understood.

The voters spoke loudly. Statewide, 58% of Mississippi voters cast ballots against the amendment that would have declared that life begins at the moment of conception. The shock came after polls indicated that the amendment was thought almost certain to pass. Similar efforts failed twice in Colorado in recent years, but Mississippi looked like a sure thing in a state where there is only one abortion clinic in the state. The candidates for governor nominated by both major parties both supported the amendment.
